As a martial arts master and as a person who always looking to improve my mindfulness and well being I can highly recommend this book. Very easy to follow with extremely insightful explanations on the workings of body and mind. This book can help you in so many ways, from strength and flexibility to learning about yourself and how to relax. If you're a martial artist you will find this book a real eye opener.

Julian's book, 'The Power of Threnergy' pulls together decades of his experience in martial arts and health systems. He presents his insights and experience in a logical, easy to grasp and lucid format. It is packed with exercises that can be practised anytime, anywhere to enhance health and wellbeing. A lot of work has clearly gone into compiling and organising this book and it is well worth the read.

A few days ago I was invited by one of our fellow students, Julian who we all know and (insert appropriate feeling) invited Chris and I to attend a workshop he was running last Saturday on Mindfulness.
Firstly, just to set the scene I should describe his house where we did the training. To give you a feel for it, just imagine if Mr Miyagi (from the karate kid) had won the lottery and decided to move to the idyllic Surry Hills - this is probably where he would choose to live.

Firstly, just to set the scene I should describe his house where we did the training. To give you a feel for it, just imagine if Mr Miyagi (from the karate kid) had won the lottery and decided to move to the idyllic Surry Hills - this is probably where he would choose to live. It is a beautiful building, has a very peaceful feel, but slightly quirky in a way I can’t describe. It even has a Dojo at the bottom of the garden – a proper one. Not a garage with a kick bag hanging from the celling but much more like the one in the first fight scene in the Matrix
So, what was the seminar about? Julian calls it Threnergy which has the objective of creating a state of Mindful Connectivity. He’s studied many martial arts for most of his life and I’m sure it will be obvious to you that’s has been lot of time – several decades.
Over the years he’s noticed all martial arts share several areas of commonality – a few examples would be:
• The mental state you need to achieve
• The mechanics associated with how the human body works – and how it doesn’t
• How energy flows through us and can be used to create a feeling of harmony or devastating injury to an opponent.
I won’t try to describe the exercises we did in the class, but what I will say is that I enjoyed them very much and felt a greatly heightened sense of well-being afterwards.
The day finished with an excellent barbeque. Yes, there was the usual beers and banter but given the morning session our discussions seemed to have much more of a philosophical but still light hearted theme.
I’m very much looking forward to the next class and would thoroughly recommend you consider giving it a go.

I enjoyed reading this book. I found the exercises useful and it helped connect a lot of previously unrelated dots. Well worth the time to read.

If you have any interest in the mind, body connection then this is the book for you.

It explores how movement and internal processes are intrinsically entwined together.

So if you have a martial arts background, or simply have an inquisitive nature, then I highly recommend this book.

Having bought Julian Jaffe's excellent book "The Power of Threnergy Mindful Connectivity" I was later privileged to attend an online seminar where Julian demonstrated the practical techniques of Threnergy. I found I was very quickly and instinctively able to follow the techniques, relax my body and mind, connect with my body, clear fuzziness from my head and re-set myself into a calm and meditative state where my brain wasn't full of chatter and worry. Powerful, positive stuff! I recommend Julian's approach for anyone who would like to take a physical,

Hi Julian, many thanks for the session on Saturday. It seems rare to find someone so willing to discuss, inform and help; so many thanks for that. Also for a challenging, thought provoking morning. I felt great after the session, so now am working to consolidate. Regards, Martin

I have had tremendous fun writing this book. The discipline required to write a book is a fascinating addition to teaching: it requires detailed analysis and a structured way of explaining things. I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Thank you Julian for the Threnergy Awareness and Mindfulness workshop. The principles applied have really served to deepen my understanding of the physical feelings that are initiated through energy work.
Threnergy is profoundly powerful creating superhighways of vitality through the nervous system - I would thoroughly recommend trying it; especially if you are committed to future proofing your health and wellbeing. 🙏🏼

Just finished a truly brilliant seminar with Julian Jaffe. The first half was moving energy and creating a very powerful kinetic chain across parts of the body as well as the entire body. The second half was whole body power, which applied the first half and then put everything into efficient reality. I was really impressed with the results and feel incredibly in sync with both mind and body.
Thank you very much Julian as well as everyone else who attended and made this a great interactive seminar that really brought the level of discussion and learning very high.

Julian,

Fab, I'm really pleased that you have published this book. In my opinion, it has been time well spent.

Many thanks for a great Mindfulness seminar on Sun 23 Apr at the Epsom Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academy. Your material coupled with the support from Neil made for a very practical delivery of body energy into the Martial Arts.

I hope to attend more workshops in the near future.

All the best, Martin

“The techniques have worked for me very well to complement the physio sessions I have … combining this with the mindfulness of your techniques really enhances the effectiveness here… “

As someone with no experience of the martial arts I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Julian makes the link between the flow of energy in the body, martial arts and mindfulness wonderfully clear. An app would be great to make it even easier to follow the exercises.

Having practiced both internal and external martial arts I have discovered the source of prowess in these arts lies in the generation of internal power.

Threnergy gives the reader comprehensive instruction on how internal energy is increased whether this be for martial arts progress or indeed for simple good health.

There is no feeling quite like mind, body and spirit being in alignment and Julian gives the reader the means to achieve alert relaxation which is the most amazing feeling in the world.

Instead of bodies wracked by stress and illness the reader can cultivate the oneness with body which repels both stress and illness.

I highly recommend reading this book but please heed my warning, do the exercises because reading it is knowing it,doing it is true wisdom.

Well done Julian I am so glad you have shared this knowledge with the world.

The concept of ‘internal energy’ is a strange, and almost mystical, one for most of us brought up in the West. However, given that the idea is nearly universal in martial arts from across the world as well as other areas of mind-body work, such as yoga and chi-kung, it seems highly likely to represent a real phenomenon, simply one that few people manage to experience. However, given that the idea is nearly universal in martial arts from across the world as well as other areas of mind-body work, such as yoga and chi-kung, it seems highly likely to represent a real phenomenon, simply one that few people manage to experience. Several martial arts, especially Tai Chi, Bagua, Hsing I and Aikido, and other physical practices such as Chi Kung, emphasise the apparent development of this ‘internal power’, but often in the absence of either clear guidance as to exactly what one should be feeling or how to start the process of developing it. Julian J has, with the Threnergy principles, managed to distill many of these apparently ‘esoteric’ concepts into practical explanations and exercises which aim to cultivate the recognition of how the body feels and with it the mind-body connection. As such, this book will be of great interest to those practising any physical pursuit in which mind-body connection is of value, including those practising any form of martial art, (for whom there will be almost certain recognition of several concepts throughout the book that had never been explained this way before).

For me the 3hrs was too short as I fell in love with the material presented and it gave me the answers to a lot of questions I had about my own system, I believe that if you want to improve your understanding of martial arts and how they work, then should you go and see Julian and learn from one of the best teachers around.

The amazing thing is that Julian's book has all this information in and it helps you delve deep into the amazing deep world of martial arts.

All in all, I came away from the session on Saturday having learned a lot and discovered more than I thought about very simple actions.

Fascinating and practical throughout, ‘The Power of Threnergy’ is essential reading for anyone seeking to optimise their physical and mental wellbeing.
The visual and revision sessions are very helpful and I really liked the background about Julian’s experiences and how Threnergy came about.

The energy ball is now an integral part of my daily posture and back stretching ‘regime’ and I particularly like the flexibility of being able to carry out Threnergy exercises any place any time, even better with no requirement for designer gear or expensive equipment !

I started reading this book with no knowledge of Threnergy, but an interest to learn. In this book, Julian has masterfully explained the concepts and techniques of Threnergy breaking them down into easy to follow exercises that can be applied to every day life. Reading this book and following the methods has helped me gain a better control of the anxieties and strains that life brings and a control that helps me to succeed in life. The book allows you to get straight into the techniques so you feel the benefit from day one.

The Mindfully Connected approach uses the concept of Threnergy mind-models to represent anatomical body constructs. Those body constructs are Anatomy Trains – coherent body structures that work in concert with each other and make your body function effectively. Each Threnergy structure has the same basic properties that can be understood and utilised in the same basic way.

Threnergy stands for the Three Energies that underlie almost everything we do.

Once you open a cupboard door and see what’s inside, you can’t un-see what you have seen in the cupboard.

It is the same with Threnergy – once you have seen and understood the mind-models you’ll not be able to un-see them. They can materially affect the way you do everything!

  • Are they complicated? – No.
  • Will it take a long time for me to learn them? – No.
  • Can they improve my health? – Yes
  • Can they improve my physical capabilities? Yes
  • Can I practise them at home or the office? – Yes
  • Will I have to put some effort in to understand them? Yes.
  • Can they make a meaningful difference to my daily life? – Yes.
  • Are they obvious? – No – that’s why I’ve written a book about them.

The Threnergy mind-models are non-obvious to most people. When I show them to top moving artists and martial artists, I usually get one of three responses:

  • that’s what I do already – but I’ve never seen it explained that way before; or
  • wow – that’s similar to what I do, but explains and fills the gaps; or
  • I don’t need to know that stuff it doesn’t fit within my style.

If you are the latter, then please enjoy what you do. But, if you are more than a little bit curious, why not open the cupboard door!

If you are one of the two other open minded types, a lay person, or a practising moving or martial artist, please also open the door.

This will take your understanding and training to another level.
